Hens For Education

Last summer we also tackled the problem of keeping our Rwandan children in school. We asked: What will happen to our 7 year olds when they graduate from our Mucyo Preschool? Can their families afford to pay the $25/yr fee? And will they be nourished enough to attend school?
Mucyo head teacher Brigitte Mukarurema had the answer. She created the Hens for Education Program:
RSF will reward families of graduating Mucyo children 3 hens and some feed for their family’s weekly donation into the school’s Future Education fund. The family will be able to raise hens for food and profit,  helping  fund primary and secondary school for our Mucyo graduates. In Kinyarwandan, this program is called “Kura Ukora” It refers to the children being educated and working towards their future at the same time without depending on others.11aff883-4660-482d-a45f-a6900a2b81a9
